Active Server Pages (ASP) generate HTML and pass the dynamically created HTML to the browser to be displayed by the user. Microsoft created Active Server Pages to make it easier for developers to create dynamic web sites in a Windows environment. They use lines of code contained within SCRIPT tags. Client-side or server-side scripts can be created in VBScript or JavaScript. VBScript was created by Microsoft and is very similar to Visual Basic. JavaScript was created by Netscape. Personal Web Server (PWS) is used to test web applications in Windows before uploading it to the web host for the Internet. Active Server Pages are commonly used to process forms, utilize databases, and carry information from one script to another to use. Shopping cart sites often use ASP. Because this site resides on a Unix server, it does not use Active Server Pages. Examples will be included elsewhere soon and are available upon request. ASP.NETASP.NET provides dynamic, high-performance web applications for Windows servers. ASP.NET now supports more than 25 .NET languages (including built-in support for VB.NET, C#, and JScript.NET -- no tool required), giving you unprecendented flexibility in your choice of language. Mobile Web Device Support is possible. The website's web host server must support ASP.NET in order to use ASP.NET programming.
